Shinco pmp-1700 Good for video -Lousy for photos! - 15 Sep 2005

I have been looking at PMPs for several months and decided, finally, that the Shinco pmp1700 had it all. Big screen, big hard disk all in a smart package. Ideal for storing and viewing all my digital photos and mpeg4 home movies.
I searched long and hard for reviews and found just one by T3 magazine and despite this lack of info, decided to take the plunge and buy it.
The Pros
The Shinco is very sleek and nicely made. The user interface is very simple and a doddle to use. It comes with a good range of accessories, including a remote control and a cigarette lighter adapter.
The cons
The screen is not too good. Colours are good but photos lack crispness. The biggest problem is that it will only show photos in widescreen. So all my snaps are now stretched and very strange looking. It also has no facility to rotate photos.
So, all in all a rather half thought out device. If you want to play videos, then fine. But if you want it as a digital photo album, then look elsewhere. It has potential but needs a lot of refining before it's worth buying. I'm sending mine back.

This unit surpassed all my expectations. This unit comes very highly recomended. There is nothing else like it anywhere!
This unit supported all my media direct from my PC MPEG2, MP3, MPEG 4 - DivX, DivX Pro, WMA, JPEG.
Just plug in and go!!!!!!!
The beauty is the ease of use (icon base menu) and the various medias and formats it reads.
It stores upto 50 movies or 8000 songs or 400k of picture images , Perfect if you are goin away and want to avoid the clutter of dvd's.
Its slimline , lightweight design is perfect to carry around almost anywhere.
Overall this is definatly the hottest gadget to have this year!
