Reliability issues.... - 24 Oct 2007

I bought this in November 2006 (double the price it is now-but that happens with everything) Yes, I was pretty pleased with the image, etc, as per the other reviewers above.
However, over the past few weeks things have started to go wrong.....in particular screen tones keep going from dark to light every couple of minutes, the image settings (brightness, contrast, power save, etc) keep going back to some sort of default level every time the tv is turned off and then on again (consequently needing re-adjustment), and also it has a habit of going into "shop mode" all by itself (approx every hour), which changes the image settings again! Anyway, I called the techies at Samsung and they're going to be sending over a person to take a look.

But, my complaint is: it's too soon for things to start going wrong! Old CRT's didn't give you this hassle so early in the day. Before buying, read up on other reviews for this TV, see what people say about reliability.......
Cheers

Superb Picture Quality - 23 Jun 2007

First I have to comment on the picture quality - stunning. I started by comparing the pictures on different lcd tv's in my local retailer and was amazed at how well the samsung compared to other makes such as sony! In terms of picture quality - this tv cannot be beaten...dont take my word, try this exercise for yourself. After all - If picture quality isn't important to you then stick with your current tv! Unlike another reviewer here, I think the sound is actually quite good too and sounds deep and rich with the surround sound effect. The TV being all curvy, streamlined and shiny black actually looks very sexy too!! It cries out for a black stand to complete the ensemble. 3 HDMI slots is a must for being future proof and this delivers! The remote is very comprehensive and its so light you can pick up the tv with one hand! wow! Overall - this tv represents stunning value and I cannot recommend it enough.

Style AND substance........ - 09 Apr 2007

This is a great piece of kit. The previous reviewer gave it as good an overall description as I could, so I'll be a little simpler. Firstly, it looks great. The shiny, black casing looks fantastic, and I have mine on a black galss stand, and everyone comments on how great it looks; the black also enhances the colours on the screen....only bad side, its a dust magnet!!
The setup is quite straightforward, mine is connected to a dvd, sky+, and PS2, but some fine tuning is involved to get the right look. As the light in every room is different, the setup will be individual to you, but with some tweaking, you will get there.
sound is indeed average, which is the price paid for having the speakers hidden away under the screen. Sound is not bad, but you do get a little distortion with load noises. Again, some sound tweaking will minimise this..overall, this is a great buy, well worth the money. Just remember, these sets now are not out of the box and turn on sets, they are complicated pieces of technology that do require some setting up, and you will only get the best out of them if you put the effort in.

I wasn't initially considering the Samsung as a potential purchase but after seeing one on demo in an electrical retailer I was sold on getting one and ditched my original choice of an LG model, the picture quality and specification was so much higher than any other set on display including the high end gear from Sony, Toshiba etc. The TV was very easy to install and the auto set up function which runs when it's first powered up was easy to follow, hook up is straight forward with 2 SCARTS (one RGB compatible), HDMI, SVideo ect, I'm using the scarts as none of my other kit has HDMI connections, the picture settings from the factory may need some tweeking, I found (and still find) the picture quality through the built in Freeview tuner is better than that from my SKY+, at first I found the picture quality when watching SKY to be very grainy and poor when compared to my old Sony CRT TV, however I found after a fair bit of fine tuning that I had been a little over vigorous with the contrast, colour, sharpness and brightness settings, after adjusting these settings to around the mid way point of the setting scale and selecting one of the pre-configured WARM tone settings I found the picture from my SKY+ box (connected via my DVD Recorder to the the RGB EXT1 SCART Socket) vastly improved and I have to say I am very very pleased with it. On a down side the built in speakers are not too great, they seem to distort easily with any real bass going through them and this is despite several attempts to adjust the customisable sound settings or using one of the preset options, they do the job well and are fine for general viewing but don't expect great things from them when watching movies however don't let this put you off buying one, if you have the option of using a surround sound system then the speakers are of little importance. I like the black frame around the screen to me it seems to bring the picture out into the room more as your eyes are not drawn away from the screen as much as they would be if the the surround was silver for example. Overall I really like this TV, the 5000:1 contrast ratio is the highest spec I could find and it certainly enhances the picture quality, when you consider that this set is cheaper than a lot of higher end brands it's certainly worth the money and if you buy from Amazon you'll save even more. Lastly the remote control is easy and non complicated plus it can be used to operate your STB, DVD, VCR when using the supplied manufacture codes in the user guide I found these to work fine except for my Sky box. Hope you find this review useful....
