No fast forward when viewing AVI/DivX movies - 22 Aug 2006

One killer feature this recorder has is DivX playback, which in my mind makes it different from the usual supermarket combos. But unfortunatly you cannot fast forward when you are viewing an AVI/DivX movie!!!
You would be better off with one from Asda!
Lot of Effort on behalf of MKA. - 17 Aug 2006

The company did a first class job in getting to grips with the carriers that evevtually found and delivered a good piece of gear, superb for what I wanted the unit for. Now lots of time is needed in gradually turning my VHS recordings into DVD. There seems nothing that MKA will do to get a satisfied customer.
Nice Unit - 26 Mar 2006

Feature rich unit with a much more friendly menu system than experience on some Philips equipment. Implementation of Divx works well, but can only use the time search function to skip through the movie, not the normal forward and rewind buttons.
Easily converted to Multi region, information widely available through a search engine. My only dislikes are the mechanical noise which is higher than some units and this cheap remote control that Philips seem to use across most of their range. For the price... great buy
High quality solution - 26 Feb 2006

I bought this because it seemed to be the lowest cost DVD recorder/VHS combo with a proper SCART RGB input for recording from a Freeview box, rather than the bleary composite found on cheaper machines. It turns out to work extremely well. Slim, high quality construction, very easy to set up, easy and logical to use once you've practiced a couple of times - combo machines are never going to be altogether simple because of all the possible permutations. VHS replay quality is absolutely excellent, and it has several DVD record modes giving up to 6 hours per disk. Only niggle is that it takes a bit of time to read a DVD after insertion. Only issue may turn out to be multi-region functionality (none). Direct VHS tape copying feature works fine, and I like the FireWire direct input from my camcorder, too. Very happy indeed with this purchase.
Poor - 1 star - 16 Feb 2006

***UPDATED REVIEW*** Since I typed my earlier review, this machine has developed a sort of "electronic alzheimers", doing all sorts of strange things. I even accused the cat of fiddling with the remote, but it was innocent, unlike the Philips DVD/VCR combi. Not recommended at all, and poor reliability. Philips should be ashamed of themselves.
