Spend more if you can - 27 Feb 2007

I had to return my unit as it caused considerable interference on my TV screen. I also found the picture quality to be poor and the remote control very awkward to use, even with the few features the unit has. You get what you pay for and I would recommend you spend an extra 100 quid and go for something like the Panasonic 75 like I did.

Simple user-interfaced & Excellent compatibility with discs - 13 Sep 2006

The set-up is so easy and once you go thru user manual, you would get the hang of it. The set-up button on the remote is a main key to set up all major features.

Reading capability of blank discs is quite reliable thru automatic format of them and it takes a few minutes but seems that it make discs compatible with the machine so I would know that the discs could be used for recording not having to waste my time until the end of the recording progress where I would sometimes find discs "faulty" or "not readable".

Timer recording has never failed and copying from HDD to DVD discs has been almost perfect maybe because the discs are made compatible thru formatting with the machine. This is one of the strong points on this machine compared to another brand HDD/DVD recorder which I returned to Amazon due to discs reading problem.

I have also succeeded to copy a few Divx discs and files to HDD and then produced some copies of DVDs for my colleagues at work.

What would I expect more !

Can not complain - 14 Aug 2006

I have had this machine for the past 3months and I can say that I have been a happy owner since then.

So many connections make my life easy, two scarts, i-ink for Camcorder, 5.1 digital surround speaker outputs, component Video out and etc. Specially like me who have devices like 5.1 amplified speakers and Cable box to connect to the recorder, these variety of connections are very useful and all functions thru connections have worked fine.

The machine is also Multi-region capable and with dual recording function. Reading capability of blank discs is better than any other machines after you do formatting according to guidance instruction on the screen.

Interface of the machine is simple and user-friendly and timer recoding to HDD has never failed and then copying from HDD to DVD discs has been also quite reliable.

I have tried to copy Divx files obtained from my friend to HDD and found all stored as good quality.

So far I could not pinpoint any weak points I should moan about on this machine.

AARGH - 12 Aug 2006

Very frustrating machine since I got it got this in April 06. Initially worked fine, then I lost the picture. After many re-boots it returned and worked fine for a bit.
Then it wouldn't record to disc having previously done so with similar formats.
Latterly the sound went completely and took several re-boots to eventually bring it back.
Its a quirky bit of kit that records easily and functions just as you would want, looking good and with little fan noise.
IF ONLY IT WOULD WORK!!. I'm giving it one more chance, as it seems to eventually work with some encouragement and counselling. But if it flunks again its getting shot!

Good machine for the money - 08 Aug 2006

The machine has been generally working ok for all main functions such as playback of DVDs and Dvix CDs, timer recording to HDD, copying from HDD to Blank DVDs and etc however when the machine could not read some recorded DVDs, I had cases that the machine become locked up. But after plugging it off and on, it went back to normal. I am aware that this is common problem with DVD reocrder mainly due to quality of medias and I also had this problem with my Philips DVD Recorder. So long as it goes back to work after putting it to default mode by plugging it off, it should be ok. Now this machine is becoming more compatible with so many discs and I have not had any lock-ups for the past one month.

I believe that this machine would be one of the best budget HDD DVD recorders you can find in the market at the moment.
