Huge problem with GuidePLUS+ - 21 Apr 2007

This unit uses the GuidePLUS+ system for its EPG. Unfortunately, even when you only use digital channels (such as after the analogue switchoff), the data needed for the system requires ANALOGUE ITV1 to be tuned in. There is no way around this. Philips have confirmed that the unit's EPG will no longer work after analogue switchoff. They do not consider this to be a fault. I consider it to be a design howler.
Some other manufacturers that also use GuidePLUS+ (such as some Sony models) have overcome this by offering GuidePLUS+ and an ordinary EPG.
GuidePLUS+ also includes advertising (reducing the area of the screen showing the EPG); something I object to but could do nothing about. I understand that manufacturers are paid to include this system in their products.
Avoid this unit like the plague!
