Best DVD/Hard Disk Recorder I ever bought - 18 Sep 2007

Having owned a few DVD recorders and had some problems this machine is a godsend. All my previous machines required regular defragging and I lost programmes nearly every time. This machine requires none and I have it filled to 75% capacity and no problems. Phillips do have some quirks but on the whole it's a great machine.
Does a good job .....sometimes.. - 03 Sep 2007

On the whole I've been pleased with my machine, it does however have a few very fustrating problems.
If you try to record a programme without using the timer (just pressing record on the machine) you more often than not get a message when you want to stop and save the recording that the recorded program contains 'protected' transmissons and it won't let you save it !!! Very very fustrating....but if you record the same program/channel using the timer it records no problem.... if you suddenly remember that there is something you wanted to record and its already started you have to program it in to make sure that it'll save it !!.
The timer function only allows you to enter a maximum of 8 programs (although you can set up weekly, daily, weekend, mon-fri options on each) but when you go away on holiday you very soon find out that you need more than 8 slots ! considering that you can record almost 400hrs on the disk it seems a bit strange that you are limited to 8 timer slots
The other problem I've had is that the remote control packed up after 5 months and when I contacted Philips for replacement under warranty they said I had to deal with the retailer of the unit, and that if the retailer couldn't/wouldn't help that they would SELL me a replacement for £30........ so much for a 1 year warranty.
I won't be buying another Philips product based on my experiences with this machine.

Well....... all the people who gave this rubbish reviews are talking absolute rubbish! some of the comments people made, like "the auto tuner dosent pick up sky" "you cant record this, you cant record that". that is a load of rubbish! they obviously just cant work the product so decided to give it a bad review to cover up their stupidity! this is a simple product to use, i am a 20year old lad who hasnt got a clue about electronics, and this took me no longer than half an hour to set up. so if your looking for a decent dvd recorder, this is the one for you.
Not a bad recorder, but where's the VPS/PDC? - 15 Jun 2007

Having got the DVDR3460H set it up, and decided to have a little "play", all went well until I wanted to record a programme, I entered the VPP number in my TV mag, and that's when things got a bit odd.
Firstly, I had to manually select the channel since it didn't automatically choose it.
Secondly, there was no VPS/PDC option, which the manual said there would be. I tried setting timers for each of the channels to see if it was just not available for that channel, only to find out it's not available on any channel.
Philips DVDR3460H - 12 Jun 2007

So you want to record TV? - Forget it! - Philips DVDR3460H will let you down time and time again. Out of 5 sessions 3 were failures - and it could get worse.
Reason? - Philips have set themselves up as some sort of `media police' and if the evenings transmission has just one `protected' program, the Philips DVDR3460H will delete the whole evenings recording!
So you want to record from DVD to hard disk? - Forget it! - After loosing the original tape of a holiday to Egypt, I still had a copy on DVD and wanted to copy a back up to hard disk - the Philips DVDR3460H does not copy from it's DVD to hard disk.
So you want to enjoy slow motion? - Forget it! - The Philips DVDR3460H `On Screen' display covers so much of the screen you will be lucky to see the pitch, let alone the ball!
There is no option to hide on screen displays during playback in `set up`.
The Philips DVDR3460H should not be sold until it has had a major software upgrade.
The sleek and good looking Philips DVDR3460H is let down badly by it's software.
