This is a good looking unit with the same specifications found on units costing a lot more than this one. Quality of playback and recording is superb and having a hard drive saves on discs too. Timeshift is very useful so when the phone rings you can pause live tv.
The instructions are in plain English so you don’t need to be a tecky to work it out.
In all very good value for money.

I have recently purchased this dvd recorder, intially I was sceptical about purchasing a product which I had never heard of before. I am pleased I took the risk, overall I am happy with the quality of the recordings to the hard drive and the dvd discs. I have only recorded so far on DVD+RW (Rewritable dvds), and not DVD+R. The system will write to above DVD discs, but can play back other styles of DVD disc eg: DVD-RW & DVD-R.
The Ellion DVR-950c, has the ability to record, straight to the hard drive or to the DVD+RW disc, it automatically defaults to recording to the DVD or you can change where it records to by selecting the hdd\dvd button on the remote control, which is included in the box. The dvd recorder can transfer recording from HDD to DVD+RW or from DVD+RW to HDD. I have found the best recordings are either the highest quality shown as HQ, or the next one down LP, as you lengthen the recording time to the dvd disc or harddrive there is dramatic difference in picture quality. On LP for the DVD+RW, machine states record time up to 121 mins (just over 2 hrs). There are other longer times to record, but the picture quality dramatically changes.
Each recording saved either on hard drive or DVD+RW are displayed easily to assist you with locating a specific recorded item. The dvd recorder has simple process to delete recordings off of hard drive or DVD+RW. I have not tested DVD+R
I have found no problems with viewing already created cds which have digital photos, only critism I have is that there appears to be no option on the recorder to turn pictures around therefore some pictures if photographed in portrait style, will be shown side on.
TECHNICAL INFO FOR SKY SUBSCRIBERS!
FOR RECORDING & VIEWING SKY CHANNELS ON TO THIS DVD RECORDER. ELLIONS INSTRUCTIONS AS I WRITE THIS REVIEW, APPEAR TO BE WRONG, AS I HAVE FOUND. THIS IS HOW I GOT AROUND THE PROBLEM WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS! I REQUIRED THREE SCART LEADS FOR SKY TO BE SEEN ON THE DVD RECORDER.
I HAVE TWO SCART SOCKETS IN MY TV, ONE SCART LEAD IS LINKED TV TO THE SKY BOX. OTHER SCART LEAD CONNECTED FROM SKY BOX TO THE DVD RECORDER ON THE AV EURO SCART SOCKETS , AND LASTLY THIRD SCART LEAD IS CONNECTED TO THE DVD RECORDER'S SPARE SCART SOCKET WHICH IS THEN CONNECTED TO THE TV. NORMAL ARIEL LEADS ARE GOING THROUGH THE DVD RECORDER.
