Its a great player and looks the part for such a low price. Also a lot cheaper than the shops on amazon. Only critisim is that the disc draw is slow to open but this is not a major problem.
Impressive Player Shame About The Multi-Region - 08 Feb 2006

A very capable player BUT it was not multi-region as advertised. It seems a bit hit and miss as to whether or not you receive it multi-region as advertised. This was very disappointing.
Impressive price also.
Value for money, but not great - 07 Feb 2006

Not bad. It plays all the different types of disc no problem, and multi region seems to work just fine, no hacks needed. The jpeg viewer is very good, as is the mp3 player screen. As for dvds, it plays them good, but if you're into high quality visuals and like me you become easily aware of imprefections, you will quickly notice some wierd (very faint) green/grey colour blotches appearing on lighter areas of the picture. I dont know what the technical term is for this, but now that I've noticed it once, I keep on noticing it and is becoming a little distracting. I'm still pleased with it overall though, good value and good enough to tide me over till I can afford something better.
IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!! - 24 Jan 2006

I was dubious about purchasing this multiregion player, specially after all the varying reviews (on the silver model and also here). So I'll probably just add to the confusion ... anyway this one replaced my last multiregion of 6yrs - Hitachi DV-P505E - which was a strong performer and quality user friendly machine. So finding any machine that lived up to my expectations was difficult.
This Sony player is very small and light, some might say fragile, made in Hungary and the remote is made in Malaysia. Very easy to set up, just literally plug in and play. Remote allows you to adjust sound, switch between TVs input source (eg. TV or video) and power on/off but there are codes listed in the manual to set these features up for non-Sony TVs, since Sony and Aiwa TVs are already set to default on this player. (NB: Sony owns Aiwa brand).
Tested on the following disc types it passed with flying colours:
CD-R
VCD ("Boa 8 films" - Avextrax)
DVD-R
DVD+R
R0 ("BBC Crime Traveller" - Revelation)
R1 ("Dark Angel Complete Season 1" - 20th Century Fox)
R1 RCE ("The Breakfast Club" - Universal)
R2 ("Roswell Complete Season 1" - 20th Century Fox)
R3 ("Future Cops" - Universe)
R4 ("Lost Complete Season 1" - Buena Vista)
Only drawback was the remote which is grey and doesn't match the black model. Upside was Amazon's free UK delivery which usually takes 5-7 days but it reached me within 2 days! Overall this player is very impressive and for such a low price!
Excellent Value DVD player - 18 Jan 2006

I purchased the DVPNS 30 and was very impressed by the picture definition and the sound clarity. My previous Sony player was the far more expensive DVPS-335 and the difference in quality is negigible. This represents superb value for money as the performance is diproportionate to its price tag. It has all the features of the 335 and a bone shaking DTS 5.1 capabiliity when hooked up to a descent A/V. My only quibles are that it doesn't show the current chapter being played on the LCD panel, and it seems to take a while to scan a newly inserted disc and the tray takes a while to open when you press eject. My one major issue with this player though is the fact that it is described as multi region, when it is not capable of playing region one disc's. I feel that this is misleading. But if you are not interested in this feature, the rest of the audio/visual features are superb.
