4 Reviews for Sony DVP-NC615 DVD Player

Sony's sub standard player. - 08 Jul 2004

I have owned a DVP-NC615 for around a year, and in accordance with Murphy's Law it has just stopped working (just out of the warranty). However I have discovered that this is not an uncommon problem, a quick search on google revealed that I am not the only person to have had this problem, more over, it seems that this affects more than one type of Sony DVD player. General symptoms include, skipping discs, pauses between layer changes and finally complete inability to read any type of disc

The player does it's job very well (when it works) and it's very handy having the option to load 5 discs at once, but for the sheer audacity of Sony to keep selling what is quite clearly a flawed product it only gets 2 stars.

Great DVD player how do I get it multi-region ? - 29 Jan 2003

I got this DVD play because of its 5 disc system. I was replacing my old Sony 5 disc CD player. As a DVD play the picture and sound are great. The MP3 on screen menu is great, it is like a juke box. The time spent puting my CD's to mp3 format is the only down size. If you have a CD burner to put them on to disc you can have up to 800 song give or take 50 on 5 CD's.

I just would like to make it muli-region as it is so easy to buy online now that I may have to change if I can't get up grade.

Five for the price of one? - 19 Sep 2002

Having bought a DVD player some two and half years ago I've recently been on the look-out for something to replace my black slab of a machine.

Having looked around a fair amount, this Sony impressed me - having bought it, I'm happy to report that living with the machine is as easy as I thought it could be. DVD players have come a long way over the years and I'm glad that Sony have finally given in and are providing machines which not only have CD/R & CD/RW playback capability via a twin-wave laser but are also supporting MP3 playback via a natty GUI interface. This, coupled with the 5 disc capability was what swung it for me in the end. I can have 3 discs chock full of MP3s (6 albums worth per disc at a very good bitrate) leaving two for those many double DVD titles.

Ok, it's not a sexy slimline like the Sony DVP-NC405 or the Pioneer DV-454 but Video quality is excellent and, so far, the build quality seems rock solid. These multi-disc mechanisms can prove difficult to get right but it looks like Sony have done the business!

Why not 5 stars? Sony don't provide NTSC to PAL 60 support (which could mean watching in black and white on older tellies) and no 5.1 decoding in the unit - ok this might be cherlish but this is becoming de riguer for this class of machine...

Still, well done Sony, a great machine!
