5 Reviews for Sony PlayStation 3 Console (60GB Premium Version)
Excellent Value - 20 Nov 2007

I am one of the rare breed that have actually invested in the PS3 for its blu-ray movies capabilities first. I nearly went down the HD DVD player track but after looking at the catalogue of films available for both formats, Blu-ray had substantially more, and more of the type of film I wanted.
I played Pirates of the Caribbean 1 in it and was blown away by the picture quality, absolutely stunning. Crystal clear pictures with pin sharp detail. It makes my SD DVD player look terrible in comparison. So I am delighted with the PS3's movie capabilities.
However, not only do you get a cheap Blu-ray player obviously you get a games console as well. My PS3 came with Motorstorm and Folklore, both of which look stunning on it.
I have not hooked it up to the net yet as it does automatic firmware updates and I have not found out yet whether you can decline the update or if it copies it first before installing. My internet provider is extremely dodgy at the moment and I didn't want it to cut out in the middle of an install. However, the good thing is you can update via flash memory cards/usb pens and some games discs have the updates on. Also the official Playstation mag disc I bought had an update on so it is possible to get updates for firmware without being on the net.
I have not loaded photos or music on to it yet as it is a Christmas present so trying to leave it alone but I think it will be fun to look at my photos on it.
As my PS3 is in the bedroom (and the hubbie not keen on another surround system) I resorted to buying a 5.1 Sony headphone (MDR-DS3000). These bring the sound to life if you cannot hook up to a traditional 5.1 system.
I can definitely recommend this machine to you.
Blueray on the PS3 - 19 Nov 2007

Just to clarify things for others reading the reviews. The 'Blueray' used in the PS3 is the high definition disk player technology. To get the best image quality from it (and from games) you will need to use an HDMI connection to a high def TV (HD Ready or full Hi Def). Without this you will not be seeing the full capability of this machine. One other point, if you view the PS3 as just a hi def movie (disk) player it's one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) Blueray players on the market. And you get a games console chucked in for free. Or look at it as a games console with hi def player chucked in for free... Believe me as a player using a Panasonic Plasma TV it's stunning.
Bloody amazing - 18 Nov 2007

It was a bad idea to get a ps3 at launch, no games, no home (well theres none now but its almost here) and a general lack in that umph! that we love so much. Now sonys bringing out the Tanks after the jesters they sent on the battlefield, with haze, uncharted and Warhawk.Im not sure about their marketing campaign "this is living" it is actually quite depressing thinking that twidling my thumbs on a sixaxis is called "living" but i musnt question their logic for it exceeds my own.
Anyway I was wriiting a positive review! I rally must stop letting my mind wander- get a ps3 for christmas or else (according to Sony) you are dead :(
PS3 Console - 15 Nov 2007

The PS3 Console entertains and the graphics are good so why 1 star? Simple it is an unreliable pile of junk! I have had 3 now in less than 6 months all have failed. 1 had the hard disk failed and 2 after a short period failed to read the disks. I am about to return the 3rd for a replacement - have little choice with the investment in games SW.
Come on Sony sort the reliability issues out then you may just make a profit on the PS3!
Fantastic - 14 Nov 2007

Got my PS3 about a month ago now, so feel in a position to review it properly. Overall I have to say that I am well impressed. All the games I have played have been top notch (and these are launch titles, which are usually rubbish!!) and I can only imagine what the future will bring with this system.
As the 360 only has a DVD player inbuilt (and what developer is going to make games for the HD-DVD drive that only about 5% of owners will have?) the huge games that will be coming out in a couple of years time will outgrow the 360's DVD's. PS3 on the other hand is future-proof because of the fantastic Blu-ray player (which are usually around this price on their own!! Now that's good value!!). So the GTA's of the future on this console are going to be absolutely amazing! Developers will basically be able to do what they want with NO restrictions. This is why I waited until this amazing machine came out. And as it's a Playstation you can be sure that this is the console everyone will have in a couple of year's time.
The system itself is a really well made and well thought out piece of kit, that will act as a sort of all round media centre for your living room as apposed to just an absolutely fantastic gaming console. So overall I'm very happy I waited and got the ultimate console rather than settle for second best.
