Forget the naysayers who gave this a one star review (and don't even appear to either own it or have used it!!), this is a great low cost introduction to Blu Ray DVD. Build quality is good, and it's pretty well specified given the price.

Sure it's only profile 1.0 with no chance of an upgrade to 1.1 but frankly if (like me) you are simply going to want to load and watch a movie and not bother about flashy gimmicks such as PIP extras, then it's a no-brainer. All other extras can be viewed as per normal SD DVDs. It also has HDMI 1.3 output and the player supports most HD audio except DTS HD. It also has a quick start option so the DVDs start up in seconds instead of the usual long wait!

With a display that can accept 1080p/24fps signals, this player's picture quality is truly top class. Detail is astonishing and colours are vivid and lifelike. SD DVDs don't fare so well, but this isn't why I bought the player so I'm not too concerned.

The player is well finished in a mirror piano black gloss and looks good. Even the drawer/transport has a smooth operation (something I've not usually found in a player at this price).

If you are looking for a reasonable priced entry into the world of high def DVD, then you could do a lot worse than choose this one. At this price, it's a steal.

I'm looking for a Blu-Ray player now that Warner Bros. has officially backed Blu-Ray exclusively. However, after doing some research i've discovered that unless you buy a PS3 you might as well not purchase Blu-Ray media altogether. You see, Sony in their rush to get Blu-Ray out to compete with HD-DVD forgot to add all the standard features that HD-DVD has had from the beginning. As a result almost ALL stand-alone BR players have been reduced to expensive scrap. Without an ethernet port, these devices are useless. Therefore, only the PS3 is a worthwhile purchase. Unfortunately its big and bulky due to it also doubling as a gaming console.
One more thing, its rumoured that the PS3 will be getting a price cut soon. So it might be worth waiting until the spring if you want to save yourself somewhere between £30-50

Older Bluray players have problems playing newer discs and future releases will continue to add problems. Their firmware can't be updated because there is no ethernet connection so when things move on you are stuck with something that won't play the latest discs. Buy a PS3 if you must have Bluray because it does have an ethernet connection. Better still buy an HD DVD player, which has all the best features right now. There are some great deals on HD DVD and they are really getting aggressive with pricing to give Bluray a hard time. HD DVD works with your existing DVDs too and the HD discs are usually cheaper!

Players like this can end up being a very expensive doorstop and the Bluray people don't care if you buy a turkey!

I bought this player from Amazon at a great price, which is a great start.
Hi def pictures, especially 1080p@24hz, are truly stunning with jaw dropping amounts of detail and colour, Casino Royale & Spiderman 3 look particularly incredible!

Word of warning though. This player is not great at upscaling normal DVD's, but if you are buying exclusively to play Blu Ray then you cannot go wrong. I've rated this player 5 stars based on Blu Ray performance alone.

this blu ray player is excellent value for money (hdmi cable not included ) av cable is included but recommend you by an hdmi cable for optimum picture and sound quality
