An excellent player, marred by a problematic remote - 14 Mar 2008

While I'd agree with all the other reviewers - this is an excellent introduction to blu-ray, surely I can't be the only person having problems with the remote control? The dead giveaway that its a fault known by Samsung, is that its listed as the first item in the troubleshooting section - "No operations can be performed with the remote control". Basically, from time to time the machine just doesn't respond to the remote control. It appears to be an issue with the remote itself (and its not battery-related). The instructions in the manual work, but I've now had to reset my remote 4 times in less than a week of ownership. This involved pulling the batteries out of the remote and then holding any button down for several minutes to reset the microprocessor. If you're planning to watch a movie, you have to factor in the remote reset before you start (since the player itself doesn't have sufficient buttons to select from on-screen menus to start a movie playing - I had 10 minutes of Spiderman 1's intro sequence the other day swapping batteries in and out before I could get the remote to work to start the movie). The remote does transmit something, its just not something the player responds to until the remote gets reset.
Samsung, if you're listening - any chance you could spend more than 5 minutes designing a remote that works all of the time?

this is a good player, as soon as it come i updated it to the new firmware.
ive not noticed the player glitch yet.

recieved this player yesterday set it up with a lg 50" and put on the simsons dvd what a picture far clearer than sky hd and for under £200 what a bargin would highly reccomend

I PURCHASED THIS SAMSUNG BLU RAY PLAYER FROM AMAZON AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY EVERYTHING WAS, AND IS PERFECT!
IT WAS CHEAP IN PRICE BUT YOU WOULDN`T KNOW IT, AS IT PLAYS EXCELLENTLY. THE DELIVERY TIME WAS ALSO A BONUS. I ORDERED IT ON MONDAY TEATIME AND BY WEDNESDAY LUNCHTIME IT WAS ALL WIRED UP TO MY 37" TV!
I ALSO BOUGHT CASINO ROYALE AND THE SPIDERMAN TRILOGY. I COULDN`T BELIEVE MY EYES AS I WATCHED BOND CHASE THE VILLIAN THROUGH THAT BUILDING SITE... THE CRYSTAL CLEAR IMAGE WAS PERFECT!
ALL IN ALL, AN EXCELLENT PACKAGE. JUST BE WARNED: YOU WIL NEED TO BUY A HDMI CABLE FOR THE BEST PICTURE QUALITY AS THE PLAYER DOESN`T COME WITH ONE INCLUDED.

It arrived before the arrival date (thx amazon) and It is great. The picture, audio, and playability. Comparing it to a £450 sony one it looks the same. It worked straight out of the box and sets up automatically. The remote is easy to use aswell. The only problem is it doesnt give you a hdmi cable! I don't know why but I got one from the tv upstairs so you may need to buy one fist
Overall go buy!
