I followed the hack supplied by kalpesh. Unfortunately it didn't work so i guess that Phillips have either done something to the DVD player to prevent it or the number pads on my remote do not work.

Superb value for money. Multi-region *capable* in that it is single-region out of the box and you have to follow the instructions in earlier comments to actually make it multi-region, but that takes about 30 seconds and works like a charm.

I updated some lone TV's around the house with DVD players of this model.
I have had no problems with them. The unit looks good and the remote control is solid and reliable. It took a while to realise that holding down STOP performed EJECT
I have converted all to multi-region and play European, American and Asian DVDs without error. I also use them to play DVDs that I have recorded off my Sony PVR, including ones that I have compressed.
All three work the same and have the same quality. Picture, colour and stability is good. This is well worth the money.

Judging by the average reviews I had high hopes for this DVD player. Unfortunately, it has failed miserably to live up to my expectations.
Most seriously of all, for a DVD player touted as Multi-Region, it will not play 80% of my American DVD's giving an "incorrect Region" error message on screen. That is pretty unforgivable.
Almost as bad, it is incredibly fussy with the DVDs it does play. Anything other than virgin new DVDs skipping and pausing horribly during playback. Even DVDs that play flawlessly on my other DVD players fail to work in this one.
Sad to say that for me at least, it has been a complete waste of money.

This DVD player does not do what it says on the tin. For instance the spec. says that still photo's can be flipped, rotated and zoomed, well they can't. Other than that ok but I do object to a product not meeting its spec., so I'm changing mine.
