Great Player! Great Price! Great Deal! - 09 Mar 2003

Okay, I gave into the enticement of the Digital Versatile Disc and all the extras they had to offer, but to find an equally inexpensive, but efficient player was to be the greater task. Whilst shopping around one day, I came across this magnificence and instantly fell in love - no not only with the price - but with the features that were accessible on such an economical player.
With the lion's share made of metal and front casing of plastic, the durability of the player is already a fine attribute. The picture is of an exceptionally high quality although the zoom x2 to open the widescreen/letterbox versions is more or less perfect except for the odd pixel appearing on dark colours; avoid x4 & x6 like the plague. With characteristics that also allow you to access and flee Directors Commentary without having to pause is fun indeed for the favourite scene, whereas returning to past menus is as easy as quick click of a switch. With an enormously edifying instruction booklet that demonstrates how to use this piece of electronic hardware, this DVD Player is fully idiot-proof. You can also turn off the power by hand by pressing the button on the front display, or you can simply flick the button on the handset which also keeps the time available on the LCD. The only element of the player that seems dishonour is the sound quality, that although is still cinema-sound, is still tremendously low and will need your television set notched up a bit. Complete with screensaver for all you that love to save each penny on the electricity bill, this great package also comes equipped with a small, yet findable handset that includes all the features available. Is also compatible with audio compact discs... what a deal!
Even though there have been a rumour of some DVD's not paying on some machines; I have yet to find one that fails on this player. A wonderful invention from Philips. Buy, Buy, Buy, from Amazon.co.uk Now!

This is a great DVD player if you don't want to spend 100s of pounds on an amazing one. It can play all my DVDs perfect. I have loads of mp3 CDs that play perfect on it too. The quality was excellent. The colour adjusting system really worked. I could get the sharpness of the picture that I could never get on a VHS.
I am going to buy a Hifi so I get Hifi Surround added. It was brill at my friend's house who also had a real cheap DVD player. Hifi surround makes it like a mini cinema system.
This was an excellent buy for my room. I can watch DVDs on my 21 inch TV in peace without poor, distorted VHS sound from my 7 year old VCR. Also as I have a 100 Hz Triniton screen I get the full sharpness of all my DVDs.

Having a Philips 32" wide screen TV and Philips VHS a Philips DVD was the obvious choice. Unfortunatelty all DVDs are wider than VHS's and dont match in either layout or colour even if from the same manufacturer and supposedly silver! Anyway the 634 fits under the VHS. Picture is as good as SkyDigital and the sound is as good as CD. This machine will play almost anything and has many functions like zoom and pan that are to be found on much more expensive machines. It would be nice to have two scarts but I dont see this on any DVD. Another good point is that the Philips 3D sound (Incredible surround on the TV) can be disabled. Its rubbish and should never ever be enabled. Unfortunately it keep kicking in on the TV when changing between ext1 and ext2 and I keep having to turn it off.
Overall cannot be bettered for the money.
