Having had experience using a Panasonic LA95 prior to investing in the LX9 I can safely say that the LX9 is the one you should go for. The LA95 had what I would call an impressive picture for a portable and at about one and a half meters away the picture was fantastic. Up close however the picture was very pixellated and not what I would call DVD quality. Since you normally watch such devices with them on your lap or right in front of you this wasn't really adequate. The LX9 on the other hand has awesome picture quality and even with your nose to the screen I struggle to spot any pixellation, mainly due to a significant increase in resolution. Watching films is now so much more enjoyable and I fail to see how any portable DVD player can better this one. Personally I think a 9" screen is just right - any bigger and you might as well carry a laptop around with you and the small 5" screens around don't really deliver the proper film experience. Sound is excellent through headphones and a bit tinny through the in built speakers as would be expected. The extra speakers supplied are a big improvement and look gorgeous, as does the docking station. I have to say the LA95 looks better style-wise as the hinge on the outside of the LX9 is a bit obtrusive. The hinge is ingeniously implemented though and being able to flip the screen so it faces upwards on top of the base is really useful for watching in small spaces like on a train. The hinge is also very strong and secure. To summarise: if you're after a portable DVD player then you really should pay the premium price of this model as it does so much more than any other and does it all perfectly. Once you have this one there's really no need to upgrade again anytime in the near future.
