brought my 1st dv900 in august.was a great improvement on my last player,sound if weak was hi quailty.but in november i got random interference on the audio.amazon replaced the player in december but the replacement is now playing up with audio problems and blacking out screen.
its a pity
extra news having got intouch with amazon they have told me this is a widespread problem and they can not replace this player.
seems avoid at all costs

having had to return this item twice, first time as it kept turning of during the film and part of the lcd display missing, the second had a distorted picture-have lost faith in this dvd player

I have only recently purchased this unit to play my Region 1 movies, so this is a short-term review which I will update if necessary.

So far I am very happy: it seems to do everything it ought at a reasonable price, with decent picture and clear sound, though the volume output is low and you need to turn up your TV or amplifier. And unlike some of the real cheapies, it does have a RESUME feature: just press play, but if you have pressed stop twice, it reverts to beginning of disc. And you can open/shut tray from remote, which some £20-30 models don't allow.

Out of the box it is Region 2 (Europe), but there is a ridiculously simple handset hack, as shown on this site, to make it region-free. Closing the disc door afterwards readies the device for all regions. And you don't need to worry whether your TV is modern enough to accept NTSC signals from Region 1 (N. America) discs: the Daewoo unit will automatically output PAL if SYSTEM button correctly set. (See handbook)

Be warned there is no SCART lead with it, only a triple composite AV cord. If you want to do a simple hookup to your TV with SCART, giving best picture plus stereo sound from your TV's own speakers, buy a gold-plated, fully screened lead that is RGB compatible - some are not - and plug other end into whichever SCART socket of your TV accepts RGB: many older sets have only one RGB-capable socket, often Number 1. If you haven't an RGB socket at all on your TV, it will still play but with a poorer picture.

The booklet is somewhat sparsely written and some sentences are in fractured translator's English, so if you are contemplating a more ambitious audio setup or combining it with other devices like sat or VCR, you may need to consult a suitable web site or a techie friend.

I chose this DVD for the multi region aspect. I already own another multi region DVD player and it allows you to change regions so many times before it would stay on one region only. I keep it as PAL. I imagined I could do the same with this Daewoo DVD player but keep it as NTSC. When I discovered the Daewoo DVD only has two regions - '2' and 'All' and that it was suppose to count as 'multi-region', I was dismayed, so decided to send it back. Luckily I read the other review which explains how to change it to Region Free. The description in my view is a little misleading so you have been warned. When I eventually got it to play my American DVD's everything was perfect. The setup was easy, the vision was clear, the sound was acceptable - so apart from the region disappointment this DVD is just right for the price!

For £30ish quid, it's a decent machine... Sound is a bit weak which means you have to turn your telly up to get good audio, but the video is pretty crisp on both retail and dvd-r DVD's.

It is Region2 out of the box, but if you do the following it'll make it Region Free:

1) Press Open on remote to open tray
2) Press the following keys on remote - 8, 2, 8, 6 and then 0
3) Press Open again to close tray

Your player is now region free.

Final word? You could do a lot worse for the money.
