I've owned this system for over 2 years and have never had a problem. It sounds good and can cater for any need with it's multiple sound settings that you would expect from a sony system. The Bass is just right for the level of sound it produces and can be turned down if wanted, plus it has a night mode. It is best suited in a average sized living room and has suitable cable length for this. If anyone has heard the Dav-800, a more advanced system, then I can safetly say that the sound quality is similar if you take into account the price difference. The only issue I would note is that the satellite speakers would be better if they had stands to ensure they can be positioned evenly in the room. All in all a good system to buy without breaking the bank.

For the price, this is a great system. Really easy to set up and packed full of features. It also has good bass response - so much so that if you play back an audio CD loud, with dynamic bass turned on, the bass will make the CD skip it's so powerful! The package has run faultlessly for 18 months now. The built in tuner is really useful too. Good bang for the buck - I wholly recommend this system!

Steer clear of this model. I have had to return two systems to the supplier as neither worked correctly. The first system appeared to work fine until the DVD player started to jump and stutter. Returned to seller and replacement unit was sent. This system worked for about 30 mins before it started to emit a very noisy buzzing sound from the dvd/amp box. Made no difference if a dvd was playing or the radio, the buzzing noise was louder that the radio itself! Got no answer from the seller when I asked if Sony had an issue with this particular system. Have taken the refund and am looking to purchase a different model.

I fully concur with a previous writer re. performance, sound, picture quality etc. but after 6 months an electrical fault developed that rendered the system unusable. Whenever the system was powered up, what sounds like an electrical arcing could be heard from inside the DVD player itself. There were no visual indications, e.g sparks, only a static-like noise, a 'white noise', or the sound a cicada (a species of tropical grasshopper) makes after sunset. It was confined to the player and not heard through the speakers. Without taking the box apart the fault was irreparable. A great pity since this was in all other respects an excellent, value for money product which has since been returned to the supplier for a full refund. I too am now researching a new purchase.

After purchasing the system it was very obvious how to put the unit together good colour coding makes it childs play when wiring up this unit. The sound quality and picture quality was excellent as you would expect from Sony, unfortunatly thats where the good ends.

After a few months use, the unit developed annoying problems. The unit would lock up making it impossible to do anything with it, until it was unplugged and pluged back in again. That was not to bad as it didnt occur very often. The major downside was that the unit developed static noise after only being on for an hour or so, this increased gradually until all you could here was white noise through all speakers.

Sonys after care was not very helpful. But thankfully amazons was excellent. I am now looking through other reviews for a replacement unit from amazon.
