all very well BUT - 27 Mar 2008

Superb sound, set up etc,
However, if you have, or will have an HDMI tv, (and everyone will have, when the current tv dies or needs replacement) then this system is destined to be a hi-fi set.
Consider it's purchase to be akin to buying a very good value 8 track or record player. remember those?
the speakers of course could be married to a new tuner/high def dvd; in a couple of years you might wish that you had delayed the purchase or have bought into 2008 technology.
Great. Does exactly what it says on the tin - 17 Mar 2008

I received this last week and am for the most part thrilled with it. I will start with the 2 minor things that i have a problem with. The first being that the plugs on the end of the speakers are too big to go through the body of a speaker stand so bear this in mind when buying stands. I managed to get the plugs off and then thread the wire through but this is not ideal. Secondly if you are going to play an IPOD through it its not as loud as you would like if you like to play your music a lot. All in all though these are minor things. for the money it is FANTASTIC value and it is really easy to work and set up. I particularly like the fact that it isnt unsightly and in your face like some other types of home theatre as the speakers are relatively small and easy to place round the room. This is a great system with great sound for those on a budget and i have to say is more than loud enough if you live in a semi with neighbours attached like me. Highly Recommended.
good for sending abroad - 12 Mar 2008

i bought this home cinema just to send it abroad not to use it in UK. i tried all files it can play. though its clearly stated it plays div x movies. its a lie coz i tried all my div x cds it couldn't play any. also it failed to play my dvd-r(s). it only played mp3,cd,dvd and vcd, which is okey for a basic home cinema. i think if u want a real home cinema look for sony or samsung u no gona be disappointed.

I've never bought any philips products before, i myself am a sony freak however, i saw this deal (£80) and couldnt believe my eyes. i was after a divx capable home theater system; and thats not all you get with this little beauty. the sound quality is fantastic and the picture is excellent too. i download alot of tv and films and i can now just chuck them on my 4gb usb stick and watch them straight through the usb. i then later found that so long as the disk you use is formatted in a fat32 file system the unit will pick it up. so i bought a 120gb 2.5 inch usb powered external hard drive and formatted it to fat32. I now have loads of films and tv series striaght to hand. Couldn't want any more from such a great spec machine. Oh and the fact it is multi region is just a bonus!!

My first impressions of this product were great like many reviewers here, its a nice liitle machine which seems excellent value when u consider it comes with a decnt surround sound system.
But there are issues- it isn't multi region, it doesn't play some copied dvds, and it doesn't even play most of my original cds. Given the price i could live with this - using it just to play original UK dvds. But there is another problem- the remote for my TV interfers with the dvd player- often turning it on when i'm watching tv and making a horrible noise which is constantly annoying. Also the dvd remote interfers with my freeview box, so when i turn on a dvd and use buttons on remote- it changes the channel, which is getting very tiring now after owning this machine for a few months.
edit/update: Also the machine is finding it harder and harder to read normal dvds, i now often have to turn it off and on again or open and close disc. i think it will be time to see if i can get a refund for this cheap machine soon. I NOW RATE THIS 1 STAR.
